Mining For Meaning In “The Maggid”

One of the most significant sections in the Passover Haggadah is “the Maggid,” or “telling” section. Ironically, this section does not contain the narrative of the Exodus from Egypt. Indeed the “telling” of the story of the Israelites journey from slavery to freedom is nowhere to be found in a traditional Passover Haggadah. Instead, Maggid  contains some of the most memorable parts of the seder from the four questions,  to the four children, to the ten plagues, the singing of dayenu, and the food symbols of Rabban Gamliel (Pesach, Matzah, and Maror). How is all of this related to “the telling” of the Exodus from Egypt and how might we learn to move from “mumbling” the Maggid to “finding meaning” in it? Come join Rabbi Schonbrun for a three part series exploring the Maggid section of the Haggadah and discover something new for your Seder this year. In Person Class. Register Here
