Tuesday Morning Torah – September 17, 2013

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a meaningful Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. I want to thank all of our staff and lay leadership for working so hard to create a meaningful experience for our community over these past few weeks.

As we turn our attention to Sukkot, there are a few things on my mind. First, I want to remind you that  Sukkot is one of the most joyous festivals in the Jewish calendar. It is a time to eat outside with friends, family and community members, as we celebrate the many blessings in our lives and begin to “rebuild” ourselves in this New Year.  Sukkot begins on Wednesday evening, September 18 and continues through Wednesday September 25th before leading into Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah. I encourage you to find a Sukkah to eat in during the week and have the experience of shaking the lulav and etrog as a reminder to be thankful to God for the bounty in your lives. Please feel free to stop by the synagogue during the week to spend time in your Torat El Sukkah

Also, please join my family in our Sukkah this coming Sunday, September 22 from 2:00-4:00 for our annual Sukkot Open House. We would love to celebrate with you!

If you want to learn more about the four species, and how to shake the lulav and etrog, please click on this handout written by my colleague Rabbi Daniel Pressman.

Lastly, here are a few other resources that you might enjoy:

1. A fun video that went around last year to get you in the mood for Sukkot:

Livin’ in a booth- Foundtainheads video

2. A great resource for Sukkot geared towards families with young children, but that has a little something for everyone from kveller.com.

Hag Sameach! Have a joyous and wonderful Sukkot!
