Monday Morning Message – November 12, 2012 | Congregation Torat El - Monmouth County Conservative Synagogue

Monday Morning Message – November 12, 2012

Before this morning’s message- just a friendly reminder that my Adult Education class, ”  Journey Through The Hebrew Bible” begins tonight. Please join us for minyan first at 7P.M. I am looking forward to seeing you there!

As we continue to dig out from the Hurricane, here are a few more volunteer and donation opportunities. Our congregation will most likely find one specific longer term project to help with in the near future. But for now, here are some ways that you can continue to help. I know this is a bit long, but please read through the entire list.

1. Greater Long Branch Ministerium:

In response to information that the Red Cross/FEMA site at Monnmouth Park is unable to accept or distribute used clothing, the First Reformed Church at 650 Broadway in Long Branch will open its hall to receive and distribute clean and folded, gently-used clothing for all ages starting Monday, November 12, 2012.  The hall will be open from 1 PM through 7 PM, every day for approximately two weeks.

At least two persons are needed for each of three shifts each day:  1-3 PM; 3-5 PM, and 5-7 PM.

If you are able to help, please send your name, phone number, and e-mail to Rev. Jane Price (Home: 732.566.2930 or Cell: 908.705.7670 or e-mail:   jane102070@aol.com along with the time that you are available.

  2. Eight Opportunities through the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County

3. Help Temple Beth El of Manhattan Beach (a Conservative Congregation in Brooklyn)

This congregations lower level was completely flooded and they lost their offices, library, and chapel. Fortunately, the main sanctuary was spared, but the community is in real need of assistance. I e-mailed the Rabbi (Claudio Kupchik) who said that at this time they need funds to provide meals, as well as office equipment, supplies, a portable PA system, and microphones. If you can help with any of those things, please contact the synagogue directly .

4. . If you are in need, or know someone in need: Reformation Lutheran Church in conjunction with the Food Bank, Lutheran Disaster Relief (LDR) and Lutheran Social Ministries (LSM) has opened its food pantry and clothes closet 10-4 Monday through Friday to victims of Sandy.  They have emergency rations of water, boxed meals, and snacks, blankets and clothes.   They are also still open for our regular Food Pantry days of Tuesday evenings 7-9 and Saturday mornings 8:30 -10.  They are also giving out toiletry bags through the food pantry and hope to receive cleaning supplies this week. The church is located at 992 Broadway in West Long Branch, at the corner of Locust Avenue. Please contact the church at 732-229-9180 to volunteer

5. Mitten Menorah donations of new or gently used mittens, hats, gloves, and scarves are being accepted in the Religious school lobby. This is an annual project, but given Hurricane Sandy, the need is much greater this year.
